At Woodmore Towne Centre, urban-type amenities a short walk away

The large single-family houses in a mixed-use development range from $418,990 to $565,990.
Open floor plans, location and diversity are just a few of the reasons Joy Phillips opted to buy a new single-family house in Woodmore Towne Centre, a 245-acre, mixed-use, planned community in Glenarden, Md., that is home to national retailers and restaurants.
Phillips moved to Woodmore in September after living in an apartment in nearby Largo. She says she likes the community because of its “quietness, natural scenery, diversity and its proximity to major roadways.”
“My attraction was the ability to experience living in the suburbs within a short walking distance of urban-type amenities,” Phillips said.
Woodmore Towne Centre began taking shape about five years ago with the opening of Wegmans Food Market, the supermarket chain’s first store in Prince George’s County. Other retailers and residential development followed.

The developer, D.R. Horton, began selling houses in Woodmore last spring. Plans call for the construction of 177 single-family houses, 203 townhouses and 98 condominium units.
Buyers looking for single-family houses can choose among 10 architecturally distinct floor plans. Some have bay windows and bump-outs, while others have front porches and hip roofs. All come with hardwood floors in the foyer, large walk-in closets and a choice of three interior wall paint colors. Most feature a library on the main level and walk-in kitchen pantry.
Phillips selected the Covington model. This open floor plan has 2,771 square feet of living space, a two-story foyer, a large family room and a master suite with a tray ceiling and soaking tub.
“I truly love my new home. Visitors are in awe when they come through the front door,” Phillips said, referring to the spacious open design. “The plan is breathtaking and very modern, even with a front elevation that is traditional.”

Hobby room: The developer is showcasing three single-family models. The 3,398-square-foot Glen Abbey has a 9-by-10-foot hobby room off the kitchen. The Monticello is 3,009 square feet and has a large sitting room off the master bedroom and a family room with columns. The 2,809-square-foot Easton has a large center island in the kitchen, a sunroom, a second-floor balcony, a lower-level home theater and first floor bay windows.
If less space is needed, buyers can opt for either one of two stylish townhouse plans that come with three-bedrooms, three bathrooms, two-car garages and about 2,200 square feet of space. Priced at $349,990, the window-filled townhouses neatly line the streets with brick and stone exteriors.
Guests enter on the first level, where there’s a small recreation room, before making their way up to the main level living room, dining room and kitchen that opens into the family room. Both plans come with a deck off the family room. The Sedgely Park plan includes stately columns separating the formal living room and dining room, and the Norwood plan has the option of adding a fireplace in the dining room.
